CZ 550 American
« on: May 17, 2007, 09:36:35 PM »
Picked up a new CZ 550 American in 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser. Real nice finish on dark grained wood, fine bluing, functions good. Out of the box the regular trigger was a little rough and creepy and I found the set trigger too light. The adjustment for the set trigger was already on its heaviest point so I adjusted the regular trigger so it is now light but not too light with no creep.

It's been awhile, when you gonna tell us how it shoots?

The CZ shoots well since spending time on the trigger. To me the set trigger was too light and a bit forward.  I'm happy with it now.

Details, details. Group sizes, what bullet weights does it like etc. I'm tossing around the idea of getting the exact same gun and chambering and am having a hard time getting any detailed info from folks who have the same gun and chambering.

I have used Remington Express PSP  CL 140 grain factory loads so far.  I stays within one to one and a quarter inch for a three shot group, sometimes with two holes touching.  The guard screws were really tight I might add.

I have one with a B&L 2.5-10 scope that shoots great. Lapua 139 grain factory loads go under .5" with ease. Reloads with Nosler BT 120's using either IMR 4350 or RL22 go right at 1". working on a 129 Hornady load, but haven't been to the range with them. Will try 140's later. Just having too much fun with these 120 grain Antelope loads. The gun itself has negligible recoil. The stock is a little "clunky", but my dad is going to rework it. Should be just about perfect then.

I had one that shot at around 5/8" groups with 140g Sierra Gamekings.  120g bullets didn't group as well closer to an inch at 100 yards.  Used IMR 4350 but the 1-8 twist was probably the reason.  Its the same as my M96 Swede, generally shoots heavier bullets better.  T
