I would speculate that the name is that of the person who owned the gun when the engraving was commissioned. IF the engraver is even remotely known somewhere on there they signed it and you should be able to figure out who did it. But it might be some relatively obscure and unknown person. The engraving does NOT look to be done at S&W.
You can contact S&W and give them the SN and get a letter on the gun that will tell you how it left the factory and if any work was done on it at the factory since it left. They can tell you where it was first sold and maybe even the original buyer.
While the engraving is nicely enough done it does not at least to my eyes look like the work of a true master engraver. It appears to have been done with an electric tool not a hand graver.
