I'm sorry to say that my pup died last evening of Parvo, he had had all his shots and a 3 phase parvo vacination but still died from parvo. he is on his way to the OSU Vet College as the Vet thinks it may be a new strain of parvo. he was an amazing pup and at 5 1/2 months old was already starting to take had signals from me and was learning almost faster than I could train him. I fell truely blessed to have had him as long as I did. He will be greatly missed and can never be replaced.

Man...that's rough.

Really sounds like you did all of the right things (vacs)...please let us know what the Vet school finds.

Take care.

Sorry for your loss. It's bad enough when you lose them when they are old, but when they are just starting out, it's got to be rough.
I've been very lucky, all my dogs have lived at least close to 12 years, and one past 14. My present dogs are almost 9 now, and every so often I think, "In three, maybe 5 years, they'll be gone!", and get upset.

My friend lost his Doberman pup a couple months ago, he got pneumonia, and never seemed to shake it. He got better for a while, and then it came back, the third time, he died right after he went back to the vet's office after he had just come home a few hours earlier. The breeder paid for an autopsy and they didn't see anything that would indicate there was anything abnormal. He has a new pup now, the breeder is a friend of the family, and she gave him a pup that she had originally intended to keep herself. He's a real handful right now, and is one of my dog King's best buddies. He's about 5 months old now, and is going to be a big one, judging by the feet on him. He's taller than King already, and about as long. Hopefully, he won't be nearly as stubborn as King is, but he looks like he just might be another "Evil Genius" like King is, but about twice as heavy a one.

Anyway, best wishes and sorry again.

Come to find out the little fellow was not making any antibodies and OSU Vet College told me it was just a fluke in his genes. They did however test the virus and said that it was a mutated strain of parvo and the current vacine most like would not have saved my pup anyway. Sure do miss the little guy, he was a pup of a lifetime and  was taking hand signals from me at 5 1/2 month old and making blind retrieves like a veteran. I will be getting a new pup this spring as the drug company has alloted me $1000 to replace him and I have found a breeder here in Oklahoma that the sire and dam are both master hunters and he should have some pups this spring. I have allready [placed a deposit on a yellow male. Can't wait to get started on training another pup.

I'm sorry for your loss. It is always hard losing a dog. The bond between a man and his dog is unmeasurable.

I can sincerely sympathize with your loss.  During the last 37 years, the wife and and I have had 3 labs and no other dogs.  The first 2 were black and our current 1 1/2 year old is yellow.  Tramp is very much a family member and we enjoy him immensely.
Greg lost his battle with cancer last week on April 2nd 2009. RIP Greg. We miss you.

Some Good News, In a couple of months I will be getting a new Pup to start training on. The Sire and Dam have their Master Hunter Certificates. The Dam is a Black and the sire is a Chocolate, both are great looking dogs. I don't think that there will be any yellow pups but that's alright, as my original breeder of my other pup has told me I have a free pup when I'm ready so I think that I will get my yellow pup next spring. Just thought I would give you all an update.
