Winchester 1400 20 gauage for my daughter
« on: May 15, 2007, 10:12:28 AM »
My 9 year old daughter recently received a Winchester 1400 20 guage for her birthday.  I have been trying to locate a youth stock for this shotgun but have been unsuccessful.  I would also like an opinion on replacing the 28" barrel with a shorter one for balance.  I also have a 5 and 7 year-old that will use this gun in the upcoming years.  I do not want to cut the existing stock and barrel since I will put it back to original when the kids have moved past this gun.  The gun will mainly be used for skeet, dove, and quail.  I've gone to e-gunparts.com and have located a regular size stock but not a youth.  All feedback is welcomed.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Here are a couple places that may help you out.

Both are old time shops with lots of wood.

I know Empire had 1400 stocks in the past, but I'm unsure if they were youth style.

Your best bet would be to keep an eye out on Ebay. Any stock for a winchester 1200, 1300 or 1400 for a 12, 16, or 20 gauge will fit that gun. You could get an inexpensive hardwood stock on ebay for a winchester 1300 Ranger, cut the stock to size. You can also find extra barrels for a 1400 on ebay, although they're not as common as stocks.

I am also told a 1300 barrel will work if you have the skill and ability to drill a gas port through the barrel in the right place. Supposedly the 1300 and 1400 barrels are identical except for the gas port, but again, I don't know this for fact.
