Benelli Super Black Eagle "Worth $$"
« on: May 10, 2007, 03:29:54 AM »
I have a Super Black Eagle that I'm going to replace with a Browning A-5 Mag.  Anyone have a Blue Book that can tell me what its worth?

The SBE has a 28" barrel with choke tubes, wood stock and blued it's in 95% plus shape.

Thanks,

Turk

Being a former Browning A5 owner and a current SBE owner, I have to ask the question why? It's a step backwards IMO. Maybe it's for nostalgic reasons.  I looked at trading mine in for a new SBE2 when they first came out but I was only offered $650.00 for my trade. It's wood stocked that has some dings from hard use, but that's what I bought it for. I had it for almost 10yrs and plan on having it at least another 10 if not longer. My only knock is that I noticed it shoots a bit to the right. This caused me to purchase a NOVA for turkey hunting. That throws a great pattern and I have since taken a few with it.  Good luck with your trade.

Wing,

I've used a Browning A-5 Lt. 12 since 1972 but wanted at least a 3" shell so I opted for the SBE since it also shot 3.5" shells but in reality a 3" works fine for waterfowl.  It is a little  nostalgic for me using an A-5.  But I guess besides not shoting a 3.5" shell how is this a step backwards?  One thing I do know is the SBE is a harder kicker over the A-5 using 2.75" shells and the 3.5 really pound you.  Both are recoil operated but Benelli likes to use cute terminology like Inertia Driven®.  The SBE2 has a system called  ComforTech™ that reduces recoil up to 48% when compared to the competition but knowing how the SBE kicks I can see why they went to a recoil reduction system.

I'm not knocking the Benelli they are great guns but a little pricey.  The A-5 will kill waterfowl just as good and has been doing it a lot longer.  This is my mileage and others may vary.

I have a SBE and I shoot everything from 2-3/4" light loads for skeet to 3-1/2" mags.  No jamming problems or anything.  I cleaned all the original oil out and use Breakfree CLP, oiled the spring in the stock, shot a box of buckshot out of it to break it in, and never had any problems.  Easiest shotgun to clean I've ever had.  I've had Browning A-5, Browning Gold, Remington 11-87, and my son uses a Beretta.  I put a Limbsaver pad on the stock and a mercury recoil suppressor in the stock. I wouldn't mind getting a SBE II also, but and this shotgun does it all.  Very reliable.  Why go back?

I have a A5 Mag that I got used in good shape for $575 when I was in the market for an Semi auto. At the time the price was right and I  alway's wanted an A5. Now I have two, the 12 Mag and my fathers Sweet 16.  That Beneli new was what $1200 ? So if you get $650 -750 you'd be doing good! But the A5 would  increase in value over time.
