A&B barrel quest.
« on: May 07, 2007, 12:53:12 PM »
fellas, have a barrel from Midway-short chambered, that was to by finished by me on a first time basis but I have noticed a major thread problem. I see it is a fine thread compared to the 1935 Modelo receiver I have. It is a Peruvian Mauser-so it means that this barrel thread is wrong and what and how do I explain to Midway what I want when I first ordered for a Mauser 98? help.

thanks

Are you sure that it is a Peruvian 1909 model? I have one myself and the threads are standard 98 action size. The 1935 Modelo sounds more like a small ring set on a 98 action like the turk actions. What is the ID of the front of the action?

this is a FN Belgium Peruvian Mauser Modelo 1935 and chambered in .30-06, the rear receiver is marked .30, the I.D. from what my caliper is able to deliver reads 1.004"-I see it is noted in the back of Jerry K. Mauser book. I have plans to do a .338-06 on the receiver-a good round.

Ok, that sounds about right, the large ring is 1.10" With 12 threads per inch, and the small ring is .980" With 12 threads per inch. Is your Peruvian the long action or the intermediate length?

Mine is the intermediate length but it is still 1.10" 12tpi, make sure they sent you the right thread, find someone that has a thread gauge and check the action and the barrel.

How many threads per inch are there on the barrel you have? I've never seen any mauser with other than the standard threads other than a few M98's with the small ring thread pattern.

It almost sounds like the sent you one of there Savage barrels 1.055 X 20 tpi  Winchester and Ruger 1.00 X 16
get a thread gauge and mic and find out what you really have. What I know is that all the Mauser's I have dealt with are 12 tpi per inch either 1.10 or .980.

living in bush Ak. is kind of tough when venturing into new grounds sota speak. I do know that the threads on the barrel I received is pretty fine compared to what the receiver is-course thread for sure. yep, sounds like I need to find a thread gauge-have lots of time. send this barrel back and restate what I need.

thanks
