Any one in Mo. shoot a 45-70 handi-rifle ?

Wanted to know what your impressions were. You can now use them in MS. during their primitative weapon season. Like to get one in state to avoid all that shipping and stuff. If you know where there is one let me know.

I just gotta ask what Mississippi's primitive season has to do with deer hunting in Missouri or is it just wishful thinking? :D

If you strike out finding one locally, RR has 91 wood stocked and 40 syn stocked 45-70s in stock.

Thx,

Tim

ALL Walmarts nationwide use Sport South. Zanders shows both 45-70 Handis in stock, they have several dealers in MO.

Thanks Rocoko, I ordered from a small local dealer 314.oo for the rifle shells, mount base and hammer spur, they get their stuff from Zanders, said they had 40 in stock. I'm going to order that 1.5x4.5 scope tomorrow, I sure hope you are right about them. Now searching for best price. Optics Planet has them for 66.30 no tax or shipping charge might be the best I can do.

What got me started was I was shooting my Ml this afternoon and with a new  Nikon 4x40 the first shot was perfect. I never changed the adjustments, and it shot right, left, up down looked more like a shotgun pattern than anything. I think the scope is screwed up as this rifle is consistant from year to year with one inch groups @ 100 yds never changed a thing but the scope. I was dumfounded so on the way home I ordered the 45-70 !

Sounds like it may be a mount problem. If its the scope id send it in to nikon. But id check your mounts and rings good. Id say thats your problem.  ;) Or if you shake as bad as me it may be the shooter. ;D

Well I do shake a little but not this time. I had it on a solid concrete bench in a gun vice. But, I will check the mounts and rings before sending it off.
I ordered the bushnell 1.5x4.5  this morning for the 45-70 sb .The rifle should be in next Friday. Man I can't believe the cost of factory shells. !  I will have about 380 in the whole rig, sure hope I'm not disappointed. I expect to be able to make a killing shot on a deer out to 150 yds. How high should I sight in at 100 to do that ?

Yep, if you’re going to feed that thing regularly you’re going to have to reload.  Your drop at 100 yards will depend on the weight of your bullet and whether you are loading at trapdoor :) or Marlin ;) or God forbid at Ruger levels. :o

Got my handi-rifle togather, had to saw off the butt stock ,too long for me. Went to the reange and boy was I supprised, little or no kick at all and very accurate. Could shoot milk jugs to 200 yds. Mississippi here I come.
My Ml base screws. had rusted out out and were woobly. Haven't shot it yet, too darn hot !
