I got word from Lee's production manager the they have indeed discussed the possibility of stocking my mold design.  They are very aware of the good demand and favorable feedback they have received from you folks about how well it casts and shoots and such.  They were ready to go with it except for one problem.  The design has been difficult for their CAD tooling to duplicate and as a result they have damaged some number of tool bits or cutters or whatever.  If that can be resolved, its a likely go --- otherwise its not going to happen as any profit is lost when a tool is borken.  I can understand that.

Hay Pigeonroost, good news that they hears us!  Gave yer post lotsa thought and here's my cornclusion:

Their reg'lar molds are cut with super hard cherries that cost lots to make.  But when they tool up fer our greasewagons, they use tool bits of a softer metal 'cause they're cheaper to make a few of and they won't have to stand up to a long production run.  So Snakebite's .38 yer .45 and that dutch feller's .44 bits are plumb wore out after cutting a few custom molds.  Make sense?  If they REALLY wanted to make our molds they'd invest in durable cherries and have a catalog item.  More requests, maybe!

Or, we could reverse engineer the boolits we got and make some sand castings, or do somethin' with a lost wax process...  Showed yer .45 around up here and got some good feedback!

Hey Ho Goatlips!

Now I have not been to their factory to take a look see, but I think ya has the wrong idear about how they cut these.  I am pretty sure that Lee does not use cherries to make any of their molds.  The molds are done on CNC milling machines use a digital template to guide a milling bit that carves out the cavities.  Our molds the same as their molds the same types of bit for all -- great or small.
