SAKO Vixen .222 Scope Mount Issues
« on: April 29, 2007, 06:18:16 PM »
Mounted scope in Weaver rings on whatever bases my friend has on the rifle.  Scope is canted off to one side so far that closest we can get is about 8" left at 100 yards when the scope is fully adjusted the other way.  Rings are fine as we took them from another rifle.  We are thinking of trying a different base, but are concerned we likely have base mount surface off center.  Suggestions?

I was going to research alternative bases/rings with adjust ability but thought I would ask here first.

Thanks.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

Some of the rings and probably the bases may be for a longer action. The rings Leupold makes would show that same problem due to being made for the longer action like the 75. The only solution I can think of is to locate the correct older Sako rings, buy a new set of Sako bases/rings or find the right base for the Weaver rings.

Forget about bases, buy the Sako rings and they will attach directly to the gun, no base required.  Sako rings may cost a few dollars more, but they add to the value of the gun, as well as making a very functional and eye appealing addition.

You will find that trying to "cheap charlie" the gun will cost you more in the long run, and cause a lot of frustration before you are pleased.
