  I do like pretty wood, as long as it's also "high quality" and just not pretty...







  I sure see a LOT of poorly laid out stock blanks these days that owners are buying!  All they see is "pretty", and out comes the wallet!!!

The guys at Luxus know there wood and are teaching the Turks about layout. They have gone over seas and shown them how to get better blanks, as apposed to more blanks.
Two of the owners are friends and hunting partners of mine. They are good guys to deal with. Adam Freeman (one of the owners) is a world class wildlife artist. If you've ever seen Dakota's "Big Five" print they have for sale, you can see a sample of his skill.

except for engraved french grey metal,,,,wood is all I care for  on a rifle/shotgun,,,I've bought rifles that were covered in lite rust just to get the tree,,,card off the rust,,soak with oil,( the metal) stick it in a cheap plastic stock,,,if I didn't want the rifle,,,and usually get more than I gave for it!!!For me ,,it's the TREE!!! ;D ;D ;D

I love good looking wood but when it comes to hunting guns good looking wood doesn't count for much.  When I got my shotgun I considered a wood-stocked Browning BPS and a Remington 870 with a synthetic stock.  Since my experience with shotguns included laying around in muddy ditches I went with the synthetic.  Sure liked the looks of the Browning, sure like not worrying about the Remington.

All my rifles are hunters, not showpieces.  The great wood I'll be appreciating will be on someone else's rifles.

  The pretty wood on my firearms never stopped me from using them.  The above pictured gun has been in all kinds of "out of the way" places with me, from week long canoe trips in driveing tain, rainforest island hunting for blk tails in the winter to flying in on a extended moose hunts,



  hunting here on my place for white tails,



  or even laying in a ditch waiting for a gobbler,



  I don't own a gun that i won't use, pretty or not!

Awesome!
I also love a nice wood stock, but, like said, it can't preclude you from actually using the gun.

Although, I cringe when it starts to drizzle out....even though I know the stock will be ok....I'm such a baby  ::)

Very nice looking stocks. My 458 Lott has real pretty wood also not quite as dark tho. It is Laminated for strength.

Ahhhhhhhh as I see it old guns with nice wood rarely have warpage problems as the wood was cured properly. Now they use the quick/cheap and frankly poor Kiln dried method and low and behold wood stocked guns have warpage problems.

Just another good reason to love classics.
