Williams FP sight
« on: April 22, 2007, 05:41:24 AM »
I took my .500 Handi to the range this week, and evidently the rear sight broken somewhere in transit. I bought it used, so a warranty repair is out of the question.   I have been unable to find the exact model and part number for the rear Hi-viz sight, and was wondering if the Williams FP sight would work well with the existing Hi-viz front sight.  Any input is greatly appreciated.

If I am not mistaken the Williams FP is the Micrometer rear sight replacement sold by the H&R on line "store" for $59.95 and used on Buff Classics for long range target work. That seems like a lot of sight for a woods rifle. You may be better served by the Williams receiver rear sight of the Guides model, the WGRS, these are only about $18.00 plus $5 shipping from H&R but about $35 if purchased other places. The WGRS should work with the Hi-Vis front sight, if you call Williams with the info one of their techs can tell you, good luck. There is some sight info in the FAQS that should help you with numbers and such....<><....:)

Jim, if you go to the Williams web sight, you can download their 2007 catalog, on about page 18, they have a formula for determining front sight height for use with their sights. Williams make 2 FP sights, the FP target has knobs, the basic FP doesn't, but they both require a screwdriver to loosen the set screws.

Also, please see the Peep and Firesights link in the FAQs, there are links to all the Williams rear sights in there as well as options for using their Firesights and ramps on a Handi. ;)

I am looking at the Williams website, and I have a question.  As MSP stated, I should look at the WGRS line, I have located a model for the H&R line, code number 17778. This is an  H7R-type rear sight for $36.95.  Will this piece work for my .500 S&W?    If so, I think I can live with spending $36.95 as opposed to $18.95.   If either of you guys has the part or code number for the $18.00 sight from H&R, I would appreciate it.  Thanks, guys, you have been very helpful.

The 17778 is the same WGRS that H&R sells for $18.00, the part number is listed in the Peep and Firesights link in the FAQs.

Thanks, Tim. I must have looked right over it.   I will give H&R a phone call Wednesday when I am off from work.
