Receiver Sight For Henry Lever Action
« on: April 16, 2007, 04:42:10 PM »
Anyone have a receiver sight on their Henry. I want to put one on mine which is the blued octagon barrel model and was looking for brands and opinions and whether or not the front sight would need to be changed.

Scott.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

I would think either the tang mounted ones or the ones made for the Winchester 94's would work fine with out changeing the front sight. Of course both have to be drilled and tapped but that would be not a big issue for a good gunsmith. Maybe to be safe I would contact Henry and ask them what they suggest.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Just thinking if your handy and your Henry is not one of the Golden Boys but one of the ones with a built in scope rail you may look to see if anyone makes a peep sight to fit them OR you could make one using a rimfire scope ring cut down into a base  and a peep mounted to that. That may take a higher front sight but it would eliminate drilling and tapping the receiver. I have made such peep sights they can be done.

Check out the Williams web site. They make a version of the fool proof (FP) peep sight that fits right on the built in rimfire scope rail. I don't know if you need a new front sight, but I bet Williams will know. Since you have the blue, octagon model, your front sight is dovetailed in place and can be changed in a couple of minutes.
Let us know how this works out.

I gave Williams a call and the man I spoke with recommended the GR model of  of the Fool Proof sight which is the low version, and also recommended replacing the front sight with one .450" high.

I ordered all of the parts from Midway. Now the waiting is the hardest part.

I also ordered a folding rear blade for a 10/22. I recall reading somewhere that it will fit in the rear dovetail on the Henry. If it does, it will fold neatly out of the way but still be there for a back up in case something happens to the receiver sight.

I'll update on this project when my parts get here.

I'm sold on the Henry H001T, but want to also install a peep sight. I can't wait to see how this works out for you.
Please keep us posted.
