Another story of taurus the junk makers
« on: April 13, 2007, 01:35:00 PM »
Just purchased a taurus 63 22 rifle today.  I packed it up to be sent back to the distributer today.  The taurus 63 is a copy of the old winchester 63.  Its a takedown model with a thumb screw on the back of the receiver for the takedown part.   Guess what it will not take down at all even when we tried a soft rubber mallet.  I have a hard time believing that the two parts slided together easily when they assemble it.  No quality control at all.  I have a taurus 92 9mm with no problems at all but I now hate to see the taurus name at all I guess I'll upgrade it to a beretta.

The thing that really turned me off about the Taurus model 63 was that miserable safety mounted on top of the receiver. I also found out through some reading that the things don't shoot very well.

I bought a Savage Mk. I FVT last summer, couldn't be happier. Great Williams target sights, accu-trigger, the works. Shoots great, not expensive, and if you're in to a single shot it's the thing to look at. With mill-run ammo it shoots great, with target stuff it should be quite the outfit.

You must be thinking of the pump or lever action models,  the 63 has a crossbolt safety.

That's right. I'm thinking of the model 62 they put out. I once had a real Winchester model 61 which I should have held on to. You know the story.
