Next Project?
« on: April 13, 2007, 03:06:04 AM »
What's your next custom project going to be??  I have thought about different custom bolt actions, whether it be customizing an older mil-surp or buying a custom action and barrel, but haven't yet thought much beyond that regarding bolt actions.

There does not seem to be much you can do with some of the older semi-autos.    It is pretty tough to customize a Garand or M14 or the M1 Carbine. You can accessorize them but it doesn't seem there is much else you can do.

On the other hand, I have this old Ljungman AG41b and have thought of customizing that.......  I wouldn't want to modify it beyond being able to return it to stock, so I may encounter limitations.  My initial thoughts were to obtain a spare stock, modify it severely by removing all unnecessary wood except for that part that houses the action and a 1-2" thick strip of it extending to the buttplate.  I would leave a part of the forestock but remove any part that would impact the barrel, and free-float that.  My intent is to add custom wood to what remains of the original stock and shape it in a configuration similar to that of an AK stock or Druganov style stock so that what I would have is a Druganov looking Ljungman..............

I was thinking of finding someone's gas tube assembly that could be fit in place of the upper handguard to protect the gas return system to 'further' the look.

The action already has 3 screw holds tapped into the left side just beneath the current stock.  I was going to identify the size and thread and look to have a scope mount made up so I could scope this beast.  I had also thought about a custom sleeve to cover the muzzle ports at the end of the barrel to help 'quiet' the thing, as it is one loud rifle.

She is a good shooter and I think I could get her to cloverleaf for me if I do this right.  Any thoughts?  Mikey.

My next project is going to be either a 338-06 or a 35 whelen.  I just cannot decide between the two.  I have a FN military mauser that will be the donor, it has already been smithed a little: drilled and taped, bueller safety, timney trigger, turned down bolt handle.  I'll probably end up with a Pac-nor barrel on it as they have served me well.

my next one will be a mauser 98 with a Boyd's stock on it, in a Weatherby style, in .243, probably Shaw barreled.

Project #1
I have a 95 Mauser that is being built into a 1:8 twist 22-250. I have to get it stocked for my wife.
Project #2
I have a 98 Mauser in 30-06AI that also needs to be stocked. It may get a really nice stick
Project #3
Taking a custom 700 in 260AI with a varmint contour and stocking it in a light weight fiberglass stock.
almost done.
Project #4
A 700 bench gun needing a barrel. I'm thinking a .223 for P-dogs.

I'm just now getting my Ruger#1 back from getting rechambered to 30/06 A.I.
I think maybe the next thing will be to get my NEF rechambered to 30/30 A.I.
I don't want to get too fancy... ;D

I am in process of building a 45-70 on a Siamese Mauser action, I have already stripped the action and parkerized it...I sent it to ER Shaw for a stainless 25" #3 contour barrel...I will get it back sometime in September and will post more pix then...
This is the action:
