Thunder Ranch 44
« on: April 10, 2007, 04:41:18 AM »
I saw a S&W Thunder Ranch 44 in the presentation box the one with the big gold logo on the frame.  I like the looks of the pistol, (Id like it better without the logo) but this one is surprisingly reasonablely priced.  Im concerned about shooting and carrying it.  I know that will ruin it as a collector.  If I buy it, Id want to use it.  I suppose I could order one of the similar not TR versions or even the TR version that only has the logo on the grips but I think this one is cheap because its a presentation and no one is buying it just to look at...

I would never cut up a WW2 rifle to make a sporter because they are pieces of history now and cant be replaced, but this is a production revolver and it doesnt seem to violate any of my convictions.  Frankly Id rather have the plainer models but the price is good and it "waves" to me every time I go into the shop.

Will it look silly being carried fora hike in the woods or into the asphalt and tall buildings where the dangerous game only has two legs?  Part of me thinks Clint Smith would appreciate me taking it into the land of sideways shooters for protection, and then I wonder if its just too flashy and would require several gold chains as a accessory.

Is it a looker or a shooter?

Hey, buy it, put on some mother of pearl handles and sell it to a New Orleans pimp for a hefty profit!!

Id dont think you have to worry about it becoming a collectors gun in your lifetime. If you like it buy it and shoot the snot out of it. Thats the porpose clint had in mind when he got smith to build them. the gold crap was smiths and wessons idea. Alot of people like that kind of crap and it might even make it easier to resell 10 years from now.

If it's that cheap, why not buy it and have S&W fit another side plate? Then sell the gaudy side plate on flea bay , to recover some of your money.

Buy it... shoot it.  Personally I won't buy anything that I have no intention of shooting.
