Need advice on scope for Weatherby Accumark 257
« on: April 09, 2007, 03:34:32 PM »
Recently bought a Weatherby Accumark rifle in 257 weatherby and am in need of a good rifle scope in the $500-$600 range.  Any suggestions on scope brands and reticle options in this particular rifle?

thanks, Atlas

The best advice I can give you is to talk to Jon @ the Optic Zone a sponsor of this site.  He has a web site.  He is on top of the options and offers a great price.  That price is also backed by his service to the customer.  I am sure I won't be the only one making this recommendation.    Nice caliber I may still get one myself.   Buckfever

Atlas, what are you going to use your .257 WBY for?  If it's for big game like deer and larger, then a max magnification of 10x is fine.  I also have an Elite 4200 2.5x-10x-40mm and it's an awesome scope.  I have it mounted on my Tikka WH Stainless in 7mm-08.

I'm not sure how much recoil the .257WBY generates, but if it is significant to you, then you may want to consider a scope with longer eye relief.  The Zeiss Conquest 3x-9x-40mm has 4" of constant eye relief, and jon at www.theopticzone.com has them at at a great price.

thanks for the responses.  I hunted last year w/ a Weatherby Vanguard in 257 weatherby.  The recoil really is not noticeable so that is not a problem.  The Bushnell elite 4200 as well as the Zeiss conquest sounds good.  The optic zone does have great reviews concerning these scopes as well as a few others, like Leupold var III.  I will be hunting deer sized game this next year (whitetail and potential antelope trip)  What do ya'll think about the different types of reticles out there like the different range finding options like Leupold boone and crocket, burris ballistic plex, etc...

go with the zeiss 4.5 X14.    You are able to then use it as a deer gun and or varmit.    That is what i have on mine and love it

One of my favorite scopes that should work well in your case and fit your price range is the Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40.  I like having the option to go to the higher magnification when long shots present themselves (ie your pronghorn trip).  The scope is pretty light in weight and can be mounted in pretty low rings.  I bought one vx-III with the 50mm objective and didn't see any advantage in light transmission over the 40mm.

I started out with the Leopold VIII on my .257Wby . Replaced it with a Nikon Monarch 4-12x40BDC from Jon because it had a brighter sight picture.
