? for Minnesota bear hunters
« on: April 08, 2007, 04:46:09 PM »
I'm tired of waiting forever in my own state for a bear tag so I've decided to try Minnesota first. I was looking at either area 31 or 51. Is one area better than the other? Is there an area that is better than both of these? I'll be hunting on public land. I'm not quite ready for the boundry waters area yet. Thank you for any advice.

Lots of bears in both area's.  Lots of competition on public land in the beginning of the season.

Jaydub in Wi I posted above in GO last October. If area 51 no good or you simply want to try area 31 give it a read. Look for my avatar in the post. When I'm really serious for bear I go way north in area 31.

And as some of you know I do have a website devoted strictly to my rat shack and the hunting and stuff I do there. I'm not selling anything it's strictly for my own entertainment.

Look under my avatar...specifically for the little world icon...that will take you to the site. Look at "Bear Baiting" and "Bear Hunting" pages.

I hope to get another permit this fall myself. What's your game plan for bait?

I'm always looking for new idea's. Although I get bear I don't consider myself an expert in any way shape or form. I'm here to learn on GO.

Bearfat, I drew a tag for 51. My friend and I picked up 2 drums of strawberry jam and 2 drums of granola bars/ one with yogurt coating and one with peanut butter. That's all I have so far, I'll get more soon after I finish my concrete slab at home. I'm also working on Wi and Mi points for drawing a tag. It'll be Mi next year and Wi the year after that!

Right after I posted I another permit in the mail.

One of the best baits we ever got was a barrel of salted nut rolls. They loved that stuff. Can't get it any more the hog farmers take it.

A guy thinks he has the market on bear bait but competition is fierce out there.
