WILDCAT BARRELS
« on: May 18, 2003, 08:45:36 AM »
Why does the Contender only come in smaller rifle calibers? Is it do to safety and design? Can I purchase a wildcat barrel from a dealer in let's say .270 winchester or is that not recomended?

                    I'm confused, please help!

The Contender is not designed for the higher pressure rounds don't know what the pressure limit is though although I am sure some one on here does.  If you want to shoot the .270 go ahead and go with the Encore the Encore is designed for high pressure rifle rounds like the 270, 308 and 30-06.  Hope this helps.

I appreciate the response. I guess when I scroll down the chart of calibers and see a .45/70Gov't, my initial thought is that pressure would not be an issue, but I guess that's why it's not listed under the 21" barrel, only a 16" and youth models.

                     Thanks a bunch! :D
