I need help finding a Cap for my pick up truck.
« on: April 07, 2007, 10:09:01 AM »
Hey Everyone,
I have an '03 silverado extended cab short bed truck and I have been trying to find "caps" for the bed and how much they'd cost.  Currently I've got the soft cover over the bed and I really like that but on occation I run into times when it would just be easier if I had the regular truck bed cap (you know the kind that makes a pickup look like a suburban at first, not the hard flat tops).  I don't even know if I'm calling everything by the right name but I'd like to figure out how much one would cost, but I haven't been able to find them.  It would really come in handy for a hunting trip this year, but maybe I'll just look like a real red neck and build one out of wood.

I ordered an Astro cap for my 03 Silverado with no side windows and it cost me $1,000.00 a few years ago. I have an 8' bed so a short bed I am sure will be cheaper.

I was really hoping I would find something for under $300.  It didn't work out but that's alright.

Maybe search for a used one, they are a BUNCH cheaper. I suggest going to the website "craigslist: and under "Auto Parts" search for "canopy". Also do the same search in the "free" section. It is broken down by States, and major cities/districs. I bet in a week or so you'll find what you need. Mark.

I don't know if it's too late or not but I got a couple of caps for my trucks by calling used car dealers in my area. A lot of them will sell you the cap right off the truck. Also some dealers remove the caps and sell the trucks without them until they save up a few and then have a sale. If I remember right I paid $350 for the last cap I bought, a high rise ( the kind that rises up over the cab for extra storage room) for an f150.
