Tikka T3 Bolt shroud
« on: March 29, 2007, 02:26:51 AM »
I have a Tikka T3 varmint model in .223 while shooting it the last time at the range the bolt shroud broke and fell off. This was the first time that I noticed that the bolt shroud was made of plastic. I tried to order one from the gunsmith at my local Gander where they sell Tikkas and was told I'd be better off ordering it myself because Beretta takes forever to ship them anything. I went to their web site found the part number but was unable to find a link to order the part. Did I just miss it or is there not one there? Has this happened to any of you other Tikka owners or is this just another case of my bad luck? Either way I'm not very impressed with Tikka right now.

Oh Boy....this is probably going to turn into a long thread.

I own several Tikkas.  Truthfully, I have never had any problems with the plastic bolt shroud.  I always wondered if anyone else ever had any problems.  Over the years, it happened to no one that I know about.  As such, you are the first, and I'm sorry to hear that it happened to you.  I guess it is inevitable.  And I guess you can say that every gun part breaks now and then, whether it be Tikka, Sako, Remington, Winchester, Browning, Kimber, Ruger, etc.  However, given that there has been so much debate and discussion regarding the "plastic" on Tikka rifles, I would imagine that this thread will likely be quite active, and perhpas more so than is deserved, I don't know.

The bottom line is that your bolt shroud broke, and you need a new one.  Unfortunately, since this has never happened to me, I don't know where you can get a bolt shroud.  However, I guess that I would recommend contacting a local gunsmith and see if he can get one.  I'm sure that an authorized beretta dealer would be better, but then again, Gander said that it takes them forever to get parts.  I don't know why this is.

Nope never heard of a shroud problem, myself or my buddies either, but you don't hear much about Lupy or Rem. problems either but I've had mine, point being everything mech. is gonna have a lemon or two at one point or another, just a bummer when it's yours.

As far as parts,I prefer to call and tell them of your problem with your serail # and it may be under warrenttey. The only thing I order through them is recoil blocks for stocks, always great to deal with and never takes long to get the part. 1-800-636-3420,would help if when you call have your part # ready,it's in your manuel.

Let the Tikka flamers begin.  ;D

Hmmm, those darn "PLASTIC" Tikkas. Just never know when that "PLASTIC" is going to give out.

Ssghelmick, I can sure understand your disappointment. I doubt the problem was just your "bad luck." It was the "PLASTIC."

Well I got a hold of another gun shop about 50 miles from where I'm located and they said they could order one and have it in about a week and that their gunsmith would be happy to install it. I told them I could install it myself but they said they would not charge to do it. So I may be driving 50 miles to buy my guns from now on. I told them that I would not be able to get there for a couple of weeks because of work and they said no problem they would order the part and have it waiting for when I get there. Did I mention I might be driving 50 miles to shop for guns from now on.

Anyway I will ask if they have seen this problem before when I get there and report back what they tell me.

That's great that someone can order the part for you a lot faster than was originally told to you by Gander.  See, my advice turned out pretty good. :)

Did he say how much money the bolt shroud will cost?  It's really nice that they won't charge you for the labor, although I can't understand how it could cost too much.

Driving 50 miles may seem like a lot, but it's all relative.  If I can get great service like that, then I would gladly drive that far....even more!
