M98 Project

I'm almost done with my M98 project. The only thing left is the metal finish. I'm sending it out to be parkerized next week and my question is this: Has anyone used duracoat over parkerizing? and if so how did it turn out?

I used Alumahyde II from Brownells.  It's the kind you don't have to bake on.  It turned out pretty good.  It's not as durable, but it's easy enough to re-apply.

It looks pretty good is it over parkerizing or is it over bare metal?

Bare metal.  I bead blasted the action and should've done the same to the barrel.  It seemed to stick better to the action.  The barrel was in the white.

Hey thanks for sharing the pic I'm going to drop mine off tomorrow afternoon to have it parkerized and plan to use either duracoat or guncoat after I get it back. But maybe I'll try the the alumahyde II if you think it's as good. It would be nice not to have to mess around with the oven. Did you use TCE for prep?

You'll have to share some pics when you get it done ;) .

All I did was degrease everything with Brakleen, bead blast the action, and applied the Alumahyde.  Per the instructions, I shot it once, waited 30 minutes and shot it again.  It then takes at least a week to fully cure.  The main reason for using it was to avoid messing with the oven.

I would be more than happy to snap some pics of it when it's done and share them. Ofcoarse you will probably have to explain how to do it as I have never posted any here before but I'm sure it will be a few months before I get it back from being parkerized anyway so I'll have some time to figure it out. The last one I sent in to be parkerized took 8 weeks so I'm sure this one will take just as long. I'll be sure to post it when I get it all done.
