Not fishing (we did take our poles in case the trout were biting thougn) but close to it. Went to Oak Hill last weekend (Fl, Atlantic coast) and slayed the shrimp. Got our 5 gallon limit Fri night and again limited out Sat night. Shrimp were hopping in the boat they were coming so fast.

Oak Hill is just north of the Cape. We set up about 30 minutes before sunset right along the Intercoastal Waterway. Probably about 15 boats lined up with maybe 60 feet between them. Wait until the first boat catches a shrimp. You can tell because it's announced loudly, then drop your lights in (saves our batteries). Shrimp start coming in. Using your shrimp net, you catch one, then a minute later, catch another. Two minutes later you get two. Five minutes after that you get a shrimp. If you'fe persistent, sometime later they start to run. Then it's a matter of sweeping your net left and right until it gets too heavy. Empty contents and do it again.

ARE YOU USING DIP NETS, LANDING NETS, HOW DO YOU KNOW WHERE TO START?

ARE YOU collecting a 5 gal bucket by one at a timing these shrimp?

I read an article in the cca magazine about throwing out mud balls packed with chum then coming back and throwing a cast net over the top of them. Is your process similar?

Using shrimp nets, about 24" diameter. Saw a show about what you were talking about and even took the "bait" with me last time (bloodmeal). Buddies were on the boat and I decided that's where I sould be too. I left my cast net at camp but I'm sure it would get the limit also. As far as estimating what we caught, I was with a master at his craft. He called the first night when he thought we'd limited out by judging his cooler. Came pretty close too.

It's that time of the year, hunting season is over and fishing season starts for me tomorrow. Headed to Oak Hill to see how many shrimp we can net. over the weekend.

Not the best trip. first shrimp on at 1910 Fri evening and they quit at 2300 when the tide changed. Got probably 3.5 gals Fri and a gal Sat.

Hey guys in LA (lower alabama) we use a shrimp trawl (16ft is max size for non comercial use) that is pulled behind a boat (big funnel that drags along the bottom and picks up a little bit of everything-shrimp, crab, flounder, and lots of trash fish that we throw back also other junk that is on the bottom, I've caught chairs, grills, sinks, water heaters, freezers, you name it). LOTS of work and kind of neat to see what comes up in the net. I'm heading down to Orange Beach in June to do some shrimping and fishing. I'll let you know how I do. Last year I caught a 26inch speckled trout and lots of smaller ones. I fish mostly at night around piers with lights and have a ball. I can hardly wait.

I quite trolling in the '80s, but I still throw the castnet. We useto catch 3-400lbs a night with a 12' net. Now thats all changed, 5gallon bucket the limit in the refuge. Get a bag of rabbitt fed and grind them to a powder, mix with h2o into a thick paste and make balls the size of your fist. Throw them were you wanna catch em.

Look at Inverness (Citrus co) and go due east across the state until you hit the ocean. Inverness is a true 270 degrees from Oak Hill. Not the best way to navigate, but figured you'd know where Citrus County was. Good luck if you go. They're supposed to be running about now

Oh OK, We have stores in Crystal River, Inverness, Dunellon, and Chiefland. Next time I'm up that way I'll scope it out.

So you ever get to go out around Tampa Bay any? My son and I fish from a canoe to get waaaaay up in the flats.

I rarely go to Hillsborough Co. Nothing down there I want to see or do. My salt water fishing is usually at Bay Port or out of Ozello, sometimes out of Hudson. What kind of store do you have?

I'm a truck driver. I deliver groceries to Save A Lot grocery stores. You have one there in Dade City as well as one down in Zephyerhills.

Rusty, oak hill is south of Daytona beach on Highway 1..
