Other than Williams Peep Sightes are there any other types, kinds or companys that sell these kind of sightes.

Second does anyone know how  fare forward they can be mounted and still work.

jim dab:  aperature sights, like the tang sight and peep sight have to be mounted fairly close to the rear of the action in order to get the best advantage from them, which is an unobstructed view of the front sight blade or post.  That means they should probably be within a couple of inches from the eye, mounted on the rear of the receiver.  I've used both tang sights and target style peep sights - I like the tang sights for quick and easy target acquisition and no obstruction of the target.  JMHO.  Mikey.

Thanks Mikey; no wonder I had a hard time finding anything by Googling couldn't spell it.

So you figure they should be mounted right where the back end of the scope would be. I want to be able to just take the scope off via QR rings and bases and use the open sights I wonder if a person were to use Weaver style bases maybe able to have the peep site mountable right on the rear base. what do you think. High rings may be an option but I have a small face and always opt for the lowest rings possible.

Mikey have you got a couple of manufactures of the target style peep sights?

Thanks again

Mikey never mind about the manufactures. Easy to find if you spell it correctly. With all the different types the gunsmith should be able to mount it just ahead of the rear base either solid or a flip up. It should be a perrty nice setup when done.

Sounds like the NECG sights are what you're looking for.  These clamp directly to Weaver style bases

Lyman still makes receiver sights but they mount on the side just like Williams.

Check out Talley Manufacturing.  They were making a mount with an integrated pop up peep sight built into it. I believe that it was for their QDR.

IIRC, New England Custom Gun (NECG) and XS Express both make clamp-on receiver peep sights that attach to Weaver-style bases.

A side-mounted peep, especially the Lyman, allows easy staff removal/replacement with return-to-zero features - allowing scope use with the peep's removal, and vice-versa.

The folding tang sight does the same, without sight staff removal.

Another, less graceful, option is to use scope rings that have open front & rear sights built into their upper ring halves - allowing emergency sighting  over the top of the scope.
