Howa .308 heavy bbl. will shoot

Rifle:

Howa .308 SS heavy bbl. mounted in Hogue alum. bedded/pillared stock

Scope:

Nikko Sterling 6.5x24x44 mil dot

Load:

Varget (38.7) (39.7) (40.2) (40.7)

Sierra 168 SMK

CCI primers

Win cases 0X

Good day at the range all around.  I shot in 5 gr increments up to 42.7 grs. but the groups started to open up at that point.  Possibly the best load would have been 40.7grs, except for my "flinch" on the third shot.  These were all from sandbags.  Makes me think I want a better bench rest.  But this is just for fun and working up a good hunting load, right?

Very nice groups!  Don't you loce it when that happens?

What kind of velocity are you getting?  Hodgdon lists a starting load of 42.0/2520 and a max of 46.0/2731 for Sierra 168's.

I don't know velocity yet.  I did not have a chronograph until Saturday afternoon after this range session.  Thanks.

You should be ashamed to post groups like that...they can't be much under, say, .75 MOA or less.  What were you thinking?   ::)   ;D  Groups like that make anyone happy.  Or they should, anyway.
