M77 Stock

I have a M77 with the "boat paddlea"stock on it that I want to replace. Question 1, I'm not a gunsmith bout can handle a wrench and screw driver O.K., what is in volved in taking the stock off.  Question 2, who makes a decent stock that does not cost the price of a new gun? I think the stock on it is already bedded from what I undrestand, maybe wrong.  I got this gun from a guy that I had done some work for and fell short on funds and this gun shoots outstanding.  First Ruger rifle I have ever owned, won't be my last.  Thanks for your help.  Great forum!!

Three screws takes the stock off - one behind the trigger and two under the floor plate.  Start with the middle one, then the back one, then the front one.  Install in reverse order, tightening the front, snugging the rear, and tight enough on the middle that is won't back out.

Boyd Brothers makes some nive looking stocks that are not too expensive.  I favor the JRS and would get the "lightening cuts" to reduce the weight.  http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/  I also have a canoe paddle on the .300WM and originally planned to replace it.  Can't justify the expense when the thing shoots well though...

    do you want to sell your Ruger M77 stock? I`d be interested if it was for a 270 or 30-06.
