Ejector trouble

I have a 30-06 ejector barrel. When I open the barrel to load a round the ejector will drop down slightly and not catch the rim of the round. This only happens if I open the barrel all the way, if I open just enough to load the round it works fine. I have never taken an ejector apart before so I don't know what to look for.

There may not be anything wrong with that ejector, rimless ejectors are made to be able to drop down and slide under a chambered round, the front edge of the ejector is also beveled to slide back over (under actually) the chambered shell and then snap up and into the groove under the "rim" when the gun is closed. If it ejects the loaded and empty fired rounds OK when you open the closed gun you are good to go....<><.... :)

Thanks MSP,  It will eject fine when I open after firing. Just to clarify, Should I be able to load a round and the ejector will slide under the rim and into place?? I am used to my 30-30 and 22 Hornet with the rim being on the ejector when you load a round.

Those are both rimmed cartridges, the ejector claw doesn't move up and down on them, it's always under the rim. If you R&R the ejector, it would be a good time to increase ejector pressure with a BB in front of the spring to eliminate an occasional, inopportune stuck case....while you're in there!! :D

I am going to check it out when I get home tonight. (at work right now   :()  I think I will try the BB trick, I don't like the idea of stuck cases!!

Hi Spanky, yes, on a rimless cartridge like your 30-06 you should be able to load a round and the ejector will slide under the rim and into place. As Quick said, the .22 Hornet and 30-30 are both rimmed cartridges and the ejector is set up and operates just a bit differently. Yours sounds fine to me....<><.... ;)

Once again you guys are right on the money!!  The ejector is working just as you guys said. I guess I learned something new again. Thanks for the help!!   ;D

One more thing though.
Does it work the same way with an extractor??

I don't know, luckily (and by careful planning and purchasing) I have benn able to get ejectors on all my guns and seperate barrels....<><.... ;)

Do any of the barrels in the barrel accessory program have ejectors? Or have they all gone to extractors?
