It's been awhile since I've posted any news about my 22-250 Ultra Varminter. If you remember, I did a trigger job (FAQ's), and free floated the forearm of the Choate stock. Well, after doing a lot of readig on various Precision shooting sites, I made myself an OAL Gauge by spliting the neck of a new, resized case. I set a bullet in the split neck and shut it in the chamber. After doing this 3 times , and recording the measurements, I felt pretty confident on my OAL of my chamber for that particular bullet.
I then loaded up a handful of 52 gr Hornady BTHP Match bullets. Using 36.9 gr's of H-380 (3600fps) My OAL of the loaded round was 2.375", .003 less than the actual OAL (2.378") of my actual Chamber with this particular bullet. Note** this OAL is longer than the stated 2.35" length in the reloading manuals. Don't load longer rounds unless you know the OAL of your chamber with any particular bullet!
Conditions were laying prone, in the snow. 25 degrees F, Harris bi-pod at 100yds. Group of .539" My tightest previous group was with the same powder charge using 55gr Hornady SP. That group measured .576" I think I have a shooter. Now if it would just stop snowing , so the Chucks will come out!!!!!
