4 inch Ruger Redhawk question
« on: March 15, 2007, 04:46:58 PM »
Does anybody have one of these yet?  What do you think of it?  I know they have a different grip on them then the 5.5 and 7.5 inch ones, but can you still use the standard factory wood grips on them or is the "handle" different?

I ordered one yesterday and it will be in in about a week. The grip frame should be the standard redhawk frame. (not the super redhawk). I think the grips there putting on them are dog ugly but then im not a fan of rubber grips. The guy would look much better with the old wood grips. Or like in my case ive contacted pat (the executioner) about making me a set of elk or moose stags for it in the same profile as the old wood ones.

Lloyd, I just received my Elk grips from  Pat AKA (the executioner). He made a set for my Ruger Blackhawk. They are great and fit perfect.

Lloyd, Your right about those butt ugly factory grips for the 4 in. Redhawk.  I don't normally care for rubber grips, but I do have them for a few guns.  Most of those guns also have a more aesthetically appealing set.  Now if the liberals really want  to pass gun control laws, they should require manufacturers to sell there guns with wood grips and outright ban rubber grips on single actions.
Let us know if Pat makes the stag grips for the Redhawk and post a pic when you get it.

I got one coming in a week or so.I handled one in the gun case that grip is huge it sucks. So a thinner wood combat is going on it.Very cool looking Redhawk can't wait to get it.

Guess I'm the stinker in the crowd......I like the rubber grips on my Redhawk.   Under full loads the wood grips tend to twist in my hand, the Hogue's won't do that.  I'd rather have a grip that performs in "my " hand than one that looks good.   I have to say that a rubber grip is awfully hard to hide under a shirt or jacket, tends to cling to material.....a Redhawk isn't exactly a first choice for CCW though.  I have a few other favorites for that.     only my 2 cents

I agree with you Irold. The rubber grips on my redhawk fit my hands perfectly, and make it very comfortable to shoot.

I got one and it shoots great , put some pachmeyer presentation grips. I am still trying to find a new sight set for it. The standard redhawk will not fit it

....recently traded a Marlin SS Guide Gun for a Ruger 4" Redhawk w/ the rubber grips.....the grips fill my hand perfectly and greatly aid recoil manageability.....maybe not the most attractive but any grip that helps me w/recoil management like that is all right by me....besides my guns are for shooting more than showing......and I needed something bigger than my 1911A1 .45ACP for cougar/bear country hikes.

pete,
I agree with the pistols for using not for showing. The presentation grip covers the back strap and fits my hand well.

i just put the hogue grips that come on the 4" on my 5.5" redhawk.  i really like the grips.  i think they look pretty good and feal alot better than the wood grips.  i'm sure it's gonna help out shooting alot also.  i feal i can get a much more solid grip on the gun now.

that 44 was cancelled because of lack of funds at the time. But ive got dustin linebaugh doing one right now. A 7.5 inch redhawk cut to 3.5 and roundbutted. I think he was going to put a set of black micartas on it. I left it up to him what he used for grip material.  He told me last week he was about to start on it so it should be done any time. Hes also cutting a aniversary 44 flattop to 4 5/8s for me.

I like factory style (wood style) grips on a redhawk but countrrebel yours look alot better then those dog ugly factory rubbers there putting on the 4 inch gun. Ive got big hands and the factory rubbers do work that well for me anyway. Id bet the houges would feel good though. Ive allways preached that i hate condom grips on guns but have to admit to using hogues on my ppc gun. They just plain fit my hand

Has anyone had a problem with their Redhawk hitting WAY left? I have my rear sight positioned where the blade is sticking out of the sight assembly. Any thoughts? I know I had a super redhawk hit fine and so do my smiths.

I've had a .45 Colt 4" Redhawk for a month or so.   The Hogue grips are the worst I've ever gotten on on factory revolver. They were uncomfortable for me, ugly, and a royal pain to take off. I now have Pachmayr Presentations on the gun, and much prefer them.

Mine came from the factory with a 9# trigger pull on S/A.  After a few hundred rounds and some polishing it's now at 5# and has no creep.  D/A pull is now around 9#.  The spring is still completely stock.

Accuracy is good, with my best results so far coming from 255 cast SWC bullets and W/W 231 powder.

I would like to have a 45 Colt Redhawk in 4" barrel. I wish the 4" tube had the same replaceable front sight like they use on the other barrel lengths.

On the 45 Colt, does anyone know if the Redhawks have the grossly oversized chambers like they bore on the Blackhawks?
