I built this from an 1895 action. Cut the barrel to 22in. put a nice crown on it. fitted the stock and butt pad. drilled and tapped the receiver for a scope and modified the bolt handle to fit. also jeweled the bolt and tuned the trigger to a very crisp 5 pounds. (thought the rifle was to large for a three pound trigger.) To top it all off I duracoated the receiver grey and did the barrel gloss black. Still in the test mode for finding the right ammo. but factory ammo with the 3-9x40 scope held 5 shots under 3 in. at 100 yards. I just switched out the scope to a 4-12x40 millet. And I'm going to work up some reloads. I think the combination of the 2 will bring my groups down quite a bit.

Thank you
It is the first gun I've built. More money invested in the crowning tools than the gun itself. I think I will build a .223 next. They will just get cheaper to build now that I have most of the things needed to cut, crown and carve.
That and the wood I have set aside to make the stocks is dry.

I like it. I'm a huge fan of full length stocks.

Finally got to range test it. Factory loads hold a 3in. group at 100yds. Handloads (160gr sp 34gr varget) hold a 1.5" 5 shot group consistantly. Going to keep working on loads. I would like to get it under 1". Book says 35gr varget is just over 50000 cup. I think I'll try some different powder. I want to get around 2500fps. might stabalize the bullet a little better.

Like to hear how it works.  I use H414 and 140gr nos ABs.  Not really as accurate as I'd like but a couple years ago were "minute of fallow deer".  A new load may just be the ticket!!!
