Remington Yellow Jacket through a Brno Model No2
« on: March 13, 2007, 01:01:40 AM »
Hi All,

After a little discussion on another forum about accuracy of HV and Hyper Velocity ammo through .22 Rimfires. I brought two boxes of Yellow Jacket Hyper Velocity ammunition to try out through my various rifles. Never having had much luck with accuracy when trying  Winchester Lazer ammo I was skeptical to say the least.

My Brno whilst not quite a CZ was made back in 1965 and has been posted on this foum before  ;D and when it was made I believe CZ & Brno were linked. It has the straight combed stock a very clean breaking trigger and is now fitted with a Weaver K3W scope which I had only just fitted having robbed the Leupold M8 compact 4x off it to put on another rifle.

First order was to sight it in  ;) a target was put out at 50 paces and some std velocity ammo used to sight in. once it was hitting the 1 17/8" red aiming mark I tried the Yellow Jacket ammo.

The first shot of the Yellow Jacket was high and out of the dot so a small vertical adjustment was amde and a further 4 shots was fired into the target. These 4 shots made a 1/2" group consisting of two holes with two bullets going through each hole  ;D The shooting was done from a kneeling position using some logs to brace against.

After this rather successful initial test I cleaned the barrel using P-H 006 solvent to remove any bullet lube and fouling and will now conduct a further accuracy test possibly on sunday when I go to the clubs 75 meter outdoor range where 10 rounds wil be fired to condition the bore to the Yellow Jacket ammo then a further 10 round group will be fired for test. So far it looks like my previous experiences with Hyper velocity ammunition has been and will further be turned onto it's head.

Ahh as a side note as I wrote this I could hear the rising and falling roar of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, so got the bonos out and went to see, the sun is shining and it took a while but I eventually found it as it turned for home. Yep a Supermarine Spitfire fighter from WW2. we often get them practicing and warming up over the hills about 7 miles North of here  ;D.
