Spitzer announces Incentives to Hunt
« on: March 12, 2007, 12:02:28 PM »
Focusing on no fault to landowners who let people hunt on their land. Along with the gloom and doom, the announcement has been very favorably received by Sportsman. Anybody have a link to the announcement? Also more incentives for youth and non residents (me), who want to return on occasion to hunt!

I read the article in the local Gazette but wonder.....  He would ease liability for land owners who let other's hunt their property - but I don't think that's really the reason most people post their lands - it's to keep idjits off, not to no longer worry about the liability if someone trespasses to hunt.

I think he would do better to foster the growth of the hunting and fishing industry by easing licensing fees and supporting hunting and fishing clubs with funding to improve their training facilities for current and younger hunters.

He also mentioned no new gun laws.

I think the guy is smart enough to have heard the outrage over his planned appointee to DEC - actually, I think he heard it loud and clear and this sets the agency in motion regarding his wishes, not those of his appointee (I hope).  JMHO.  Mikey.

Guys, beware of the WOLF in Sheep's clothing!

Regarding landowner liability, the Public Liability Law relievies the landowner of any liability, except in the case of the owner knowingly allowing access, when there is a hazard present that would put the hunters, in this case, in danger.

Of course, in this "sue everyone" mentality, the landowner in NOT exempt from a civil suit, by the parties involved.

Spitzer is not a friend to the hunters, trapper, and fishermen and women!  Listen very caefully to the words he uses, and then draw your own conclusions.  Notice what he doesn't say.

The"Incentives for hunters" could be Spitzer's tactic for selling more licenses so NY can use sportsman's $$$ to pay for non F&W purposes more related to environmental issues.  This would fit with his nomination of Grannis & his well known environmental views.  The only solution I can see would be to separate F&W from DEC into its' own dept. run by science & biology, not anti-hunting politicians.

Being a land owner..it would seem only common sense that anyone hunting my land w/o permission would be doing so COMPLETELY at their own risk, outside someone actually setting a "booby trap" for them .

..But don't expect "common sense" where lawyers and $$ are concerned.

Yes, I post..but only the road frontage..just to keep out the "road rangers"..normally, anyone who is man (or woman) enough to ask is man enough to hunt there..but I still wouldn't want to be responsible if he broke his ankle...

  KK..

Just another case of ..."follow the money trail" ?

Licenses, out of state hunters, motels, restaurants, ammo-gear& clothing sales, traffic tickets etc. ?

Could be I guess...Pataki would have done the same...We in upstate NY have to look out for ourselves..the "city slickers" won't do it !....LOL
