357 Herrett 10" or 14"
« on: March 12, 2007, 06:51:49 AM »
Looking into getting a new barrel for my contender. I am pretty much set on the 357 Herret. Just can't decide on wheather to get the 10" or 14" barrel. From looking at the loading manuals it seems that you don't get a lot of increase in vel for the extra 4". Any body out there have experence with both? Please let me know.
Thanks, Van

Get the 10". Both of the Herretts were specifically designed to  perform in the 10" barrel length. Going to a long barrel does not give you anything of value and just adds weight and makes them less handy.

Exactly what Greybeard said.  I have a 10" I've had for a very long time and between my son and I we've tried to shoot it to death.  Had 2 or 3 long barrels in the past that didn't stay around long.  The 10" barrel with iron sights is very handy and the Herrett round is plenty potent for the ranges we us it.
