which banner?
« on: March 09, 2007, 05:48:44 AM »
I have a 4-9 power banner and I like it (I see lots of people here like them, too).  I noticed that they have a  6-18 x 50 and a 6-24 x 40.  Would the 6-18 be brighter?  Has anyone used the higher power banner?  The cheapest I've seen the 6-18 is $109 and $120 for the 6-24.    I would mostly be using it for varmints and target shooting.  I think I'd like the mil dot which is only on the 6-24, but I've never use one.  Whaddayathink?

4-9x, eh??? A custom!!! :D Most folks that I've read about really like the 6-18x50, the larger objective really provides a bright view, Digger and Lik2hunt are a couple very satisfied users of that scope, as are many at RFC.

does the large objective lense require higher mounts or anything?

I don't have one of the higher bushnells but do have some other 50s that i had to go with extra high rings to get the clearance over the barrel that i needed , i even had to go that route with the 3x9 banner that i just put on mt 22 mag Sportster to get enough hammer clearance .

In the last case i was using a Weaver 82 mount and had to move the scope further to the muzzle than i normaly would .

Hi there, I have 2   6-18x50 banners and i love them i had to use high rings on my 243 ultra varmint but not a big deal, i wish i could have found the 6-24 though i would have bought that instead. I also have on on my 300 win mag and its been on there for 1yr about 400 rnds and its still goin strong. A 6-18 for 109 thats a steal here in central pa where i live i paid 160 tax included at gander mountain. I would deffinatly recommend them.

I have 2 6X18X50's and they are very very good in late eve. light. I think Midway had this scope in mildot's awhile back. Natchezz had them on sale also with a free spotting scope.   Digger

I have the 6x24x40 and I like it alot however I think 24 power is a little to much. I have a 22-250 Ultra Varmint on lay away. When I get it I plan on putting the 6x18xx50 on it.I think I might like it even better.

just mounted the 6x18x50 on a 205 on medium burris rings and it fits perfectly and has great magnification.  I have not got to shoot it yet, just the intown dry fires (holding the hammer while pulling the trigger)

I don't have any Banners.

But, do have a Simmon's 6-18x on my Sako .223 and its just right for p/doggig for me.

Both my NEF's, M2 and HMR have BSA Sweet 17's on them, plus I got an extra one when ordering other things from Midway.

Only complaint I have about them is the dial can be spun as many turns as you desire, or the
clerks seem to think it's cute to spin it.

Man is it ever a bite in the butt to find a target when it's been spun half a dozen or twenty times!!  Used up a full box of HMRs just getting it to hit the target. Gave up on hitting it at 25yds and set one at 15 feet. Was still way off to the side and low.  Believe it was four FEET to the right and over a foot low at 15 feet.

Then the set screws on the wheel were too tight, didn't want to strip them so took it back to the store to have them set it to zero.  Damned if the fkg clerk didn't grab hold of the dial and start spinning it before I could even holler at him.
By the time I stopped chewing on him, he'd handed me a fresh box of shells. But, damn it I had to drive 13 miles back to the range and rezeroing it again.  No sense in that.  SO if you get one, be mighty careful you don't let some idiot spin that dial.

I feel if the gun was leaned against something and it slid down with the knob against something like a seat. It just might get spun a bunch then too.  There's no way to lock it in place that I know of.

Hope this helps someone prevent the hassles I went thru.
