C Mac ;  Like cknight98 said the area can make a difference in the price of any gun, however you can bet if you take a firearm to a dealer the first thing he is going to do after looking at your weapon and determining the condition is pull out a book of values to see what it is worth, that takes all emotion out of the picture, and gives both parties a baseline to work with you as the seller may feel that it is worth more as you own it but then it may not be worth the same amout to the person wanting to purchase it, in the long run it is best to know what a gun is worth by both parties then work out a fair price from there. :D   JIM

jhm,
You sure were close. I called two shops and one was $550 and the other was $555. Then both have 8% tax. $600. The Smith is $75 more than the Taurus raging bull. What would you do?
Thanks, c mac

Well thats going to be a tough one to answer with the political atmophere that S&W has created at present I own a smith and wont buy a new smith to help them out but I would jump on a used one as it would not be adding to their bottom line, unlike others I am not going to get rid of the smiths that I own but I wont be getting a NEW smith that will help the company, so with that said I would look around for a good used 657 myself as it would not be helping S&W.  I really do like the S&W the best but I am also a stuborn individual on what they did. :D   JIM

I own the tracker in 41 magnum and its a handful.my hotter rounds are 20 grains of h110,and they sting your hands quite a bit.
I have since lowered my handloads to 18 grains, and I can shoot all day long with no discomfort.
I own a raging bull in 454 so I opted for the smaller tracker frame with 4 inch barrel,I paid $450 new.
I also just bought a ruger blackhawk 41 magnum for $309,which is a fantastic price for a single action wheelgun.
I would suggest getting the largest frame and longest barrel for the 41 magnum, its a very powerful round.
I sure wouldnt want to shoot 41 magnum rounds at 20 grains without porting and rubber grips,it would really kick.
