Shot the CZ American 204 today

I got the ol gal out today and ran some lead thru her. Man this little gun is the cats meow. I only have an 80 yard spot behind the house without having to load up and go somewhere else. These are two different groups that were under an inch. All the rest were at or under an inch but these were the best two. I think I will keep her. ;D

Looks like your doing well  ;D although I cannot say that I am surprised. Both the Cz's & Brno's that I have shot all prooved to be accurate  :)

Hi folks- I bought a new CZ American .204 Last year. Barrel wasn't floated so I did that. I have shot factory Hornady, Winchester, and Remington plus many different handloads with different powders and bullet weights and have never gotten an inch group at 50 yards. This is one of four 527's I own. One .222 one Hornet and another .204 but it's a Varmint model. They all shoot great but for the American. I haven't given up yet but damn near ready to. Anyone have any suggestions?  Beautiful rifle beautiful wood and love the weight of it. I didn't have much hair to start with and now I'm down to skin everywhere on top.

Hmmmm you might have to go back to basics and bed the stock. Check carefully that the action is not springing when it's tightened down and that it's also not binding in the stock. I would also try putting a pressure point about 1" back from the fore-end tip. You can use card shims to do this and see if it helps. I have a P-H 1200 Super which the beddign was bad from new. When I did the bedding I screwed up and put too much in and accidently floated the barrel. This rifle hates a floated barrel and groups opened up to around 8" ................ No I am not joking. I tried soem card under the barel and the groups reduced in size so I padded more card shims until the groups shrank back down and then knew how much pressure it like then had the rifle bedded by a gunsmith and with factory ammo the rifle will shoot around 1 MOA providing the shooter does their part.

    As for floating the barrel? well my take on it is that it's a cheap way for production. I am not a fan of floated barrels although I do have a couple of rifles that have them. One I did before I learned better! The most accurate rifle I own had a tightly bedded barrel, no bedding compounds just good accurate fitting by the maker. The rifle was not cheap though. Willl have to see what the target rifle I am picking up tomorrow has. It's been a long time since I saw it so I don't know if the heavy barrel is floated or not.
