Ya'll can count on it. But boy oh boy the ammo WOW $$$$$,I found 2 box's of Federal Fusion at Midway so at least I'll get some brass out of that. But I can't find any new brass so I will have to neck up some new .308 as soon as the dies get here. Then the fun part experimenting ;D.

Kind of stuck on the scope deal though,I have an old Denver Redfield 2x7 sitting in the safe but I'm also looking at a Pentax,I have one of those on my .300 and it really is a nice scope. I'm hoping somebody will chime in thats already been shooting a .338 so I can make a good choice.

I have a Zeiss 3x9 conquest on my 338 (win mag) and absolutely love it. Since you are getting a new rifle, ya may as well spring for new glass too  ;D

The opticzone here at GBO sells this scope for under $400, last time I checked. IIRC, free shipping and no tax. Super super deal on a very fine riflescope.

I'd take a look at the Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35mm. I just put one on a model 7 7mm-08 and it's looks like the perfect scope. Nice and compact and excellent glass in my opinion. You can find them under $175.00. Just a suggestion.

TikkaBuck,

You bought a Tikka rifle? I thought you were the one who hated Tikkas so much?  ;D

Well TikkaBuck, I hope that new .338 brings you years of enjoyment, even if it is a Tikka.   :D

And finally, something we can agree with - the Burris scopes. I too have a new rifle in transit as we speak. Its one of those wannabe Tikka, M77 Rugers,   ;D , in 6.5 X 55 Swedish Mauser, but I got a great price on it new and I love the caliber. According to the serial number, it should even have the new LC6 trigger. Plan on putting a Burris Fullfield II on it to complete the package. Seems like a great scope, from an excellent company, for a good price.

Guess it doesn't really matter what brand of rifle we buy as long we enjoy it.

You got that right,I've got a couple of Ruger M-77 rifles and they are great no Mark II's though, and when I hunt with my pistol it's a Redhawk.  Best customer service around. You do know Tikka makes a 6.5 . ;)

Can't remember which magazine, but there was a favorable review of the .338 Fed. either in American Rifleman or Outdoor Life. Bet you read it, too. The .358 Win. was a good cartridge but never all that popular.People thought it was strictly a woods cartridge. The .338 Fed. has a trajectory not too different from  the .308 and a wider selection of bullets. Should be a good elk/moose rifle and a sure killer on smaller stuff. I would round up a good supply of brass and handload the cartridge.
