.22 Long rifle or .22Match barrels
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:05:21 AM »
I see some barrels are listed as .22 Match and some are not. Is there a difference in .22 Contender barrels or are they all considered "Match" grade? ??? And while I'm asking...I have a brand new G-2 frame which I soon hope to give to a good smith to have a trigger job done. I'll be hunting with this gun. How many pound trigger pull should I get?

As I understand it (and someone correct me if I am wrong) yes T/C did indeed offer standard .22 LR Barrels and .22 LR Barrels with a Match Chamber (chamber made to tighter dimensions).

However if I remember correctly from looking at T/C's current offerings they only offer .22 LR Barrels with Match Chambers currently.

Over the years I have had two Super 14 .22 LR Match Contender Barrels (1 Blued and 1 Stainless-Steel). Both were super accurate, but the Blued Barrel had a super tight chamber and at times extraction was difficult as was chambering certain brands & types of .22 LR ammo.

I currently have a 14" .22 LR Match Contender Barrel made by On Target Technologies. This is a Chrome Moly Barrel made wth a Douglas Premium Barrel Blank that has been Hard Chrome Plated by Metaloy Industries to match my new Stainless-Steel G2 Contender Frame.

The accuracy potential of the .22 LR Cartridge in a Contender Handgun never ceases to amaze me.

I asked this question a few years ago.  Don't know how far back you have to go to see the post...

After all of the discussion, I decided to go with the Match chambering.  Never had/tried the "normal" .22 chambering.  I can tell you this much, I don't care what they are like...the .22 Match has been outstanding for me.  Super accurate with most ammo (never tried the real cheap stuff).  Chamber is a bit tight, but better tight than loose.  I would suggest the Match barrel to anyone.
How'd you like a peek at my 14-incher? (Contender, that is)

I have one of each and really can't tell the difference.  Both work great, shoot better than I can.  Its kind of a Win-Win I think.

I have heard that you need to be careful with trhe longer cased rounds such as stingers. The chamber may not be cut deep enough for them.   KN

I have a 22 LR match Contender barrel and Stingers work just fine in it.

I don't know what a G2 Contender trigger is like but my Contender had an excellent trigger out of the box.  I've never been tempted to have a trigger job done on it.  Now Encores; they're a bit different and by and large need a trigger job for the best shooting.

I have three G2s and one original Contender and all of them have good triggers.  The original I bought used so it may have been worked on before I got it, but all three of the G2s I got new and they all were fine from the factory.
