Actual Encore/Contender weight
« on: March 03, 2007, 03:19:33 AM »
I noice that T/C states that thier unscoped 24" Encore Rifle weighs 6.75lbs. I think its more like 7.25lbs. Has any actually weighed one of these? I've found that the 50cal prohunter muzzleloader weighs 8.25lbs. This with a .5 inch hole in the barrel. Compared to a .284" hole for the 7mm08. 4 more inches of barrel and a light aluminum ram rod can't possible add 1.5lbs to an Encore. I think T/C's scales are broken!
If you have weighed any of your T/C's please tell me what the set-up is, ie; wood stocks, scoped/unscoped, metal type of mounts, etc...
Also they state that there G2 weighs 5.6lbs in carbine set-up, with out scope. No way, this can't be.

I don't know about the Encore, but my G2 carbine (30-30, walnut stock set, and Bushnell 1.5-5 scope with aluminum weaver mounts) tips the scale at just over 6.5 pounds. I know, becuase I weighed it myself.

My Encore Pro-Hunter in 280 Remington weighs 8 3/4 pounds.

That is with the Nikon Pro-Staff scope mounted on it.

The Pro-Hunter is synthetic stocked.

My Encore,
with the 458 Win Mag barrel,
after I filled the synthetic buttstock with fiberglass,
and with the scope in place...
weighs 12 pounds.

Thanks for the info. That 8lbs is not that bad, considering it's a straight bull "With" a scope on it. Most bolt actions weigh that much with sporter barrels, scoped.
