Contender barrel types

I know this will be old news to a lot of you, but I would like to know the difference in the contender barrel types. When I see them for sale as a Type I or Type II and such, I'm not sure just what is being discussed. I know on early barrels the front sight was soldered to the barrel and the locking lug was a one piece. I know some of the lugs on the bottom had a flat base and some had a step. So who can tell me what characteristics go with what type? Thanks, Larry

Graybeard, did I do something to contribute to what ever the problem is?  I hope not.  If so, PM me.  I enjoy this site a lot and don't want to contribute to any problems.  I thought it was ironic that my first name, as well as the first name of the gentleman maintaining the barrel type info, happen to be the same.
