twist rate in .308
« on: March 01, 2007, 04:24:53 PM »
plan to shoot a lot of gas-checked cast in .308, not sure which mold yet, probably around 180gr Am I going to be OK with any factory twist?  Might also want to run some much lighter jacketed bullets faster.  Is 1:10 a good all around twist for .308?
Thanks

A 1:10 twist rate in a 308 is good, if you can find one but most are 1:12.  The faster 1:10 rate is usually found in 30-06s for use with heavier bullets.  The 1:12 wroks better with the lighter bullets.  If your 308 has a 1:10 twist rate you should be able to have a lot of fun with gas checked 180 gn cast slugs.  Mikey.
