Barrell break in after lapping
« on: March 01, 2007, 01:49:09 PM »
Veral, I read in one of the posts where you said a barrel needed to be broken in after lapping.  What is your recommendation for doing this?  I understand you recommend using Tetra Gun as a bore conditioner.  What are the steps?

Thanks,

Craig

Barrel breakin after lapping WITH THE LBT LAP KIT is only important if you are shooting jacketed.
If the bore is polished after lapping as the instructions describe, brush Tetra lube into the bore using a bronze brush about 100 to 150 strokes, with the barrel good and warm to the hands.  Then shoot if any way you like with cast.  You can't do anything wrong.  With jacketed, I wipe a film of Tetra on the exposed part  of the bullet for at least the first 20 rounds.  A drop on the finger will coat two or three rounds well enough.  In other words just enough to dampen the bullet, don't try to soak it or hang a lot on.

A tip about Tetra lube.  If you are having leading problems with cast bullets that are not lubed with LBT lubricant, treat the bullets as above for jacketed and the leading problem wll quite likelyl go away, or smear just a thin coat of LBT Blue Soft lube over the existing trash lube and you'll get almost as good performance as if the grooves were full of LBT lube.  Tetra won't help when smeared over  LBT lube as it is as good as is possible to make with modern technology.  If I sound braggy, so be it!  Disprove me, please!
