base/rings question on 629
« on: February 27, 2007, 04:36:21 PM »
I have a Burris SS base/rings now. I have a Williams set-up available to me.

My question:
Is there any advantage to the Williams in accuracy? I notice it provides for a more foreward mount for the scope, and uses the barrel for support. Is it a reliable set up?

Thanks in advance,  Ken

I guess this was a tougher question than I thought... ??? no help? Hate to try something that is known to be problematic...

I had a Burris mount for a Remington 700 a while back and it would toggle back and forth, without the screws tightened. I sold the mount and bought a Leopold replacement for it? I'll never buy another Burris, I know that this probably happens with all brands, occasionally, but once is enough for me.

I have no knowledge of the Williams set up. I've used Burris, Leupold and Weaver bases for the S&W guns that are factory D&T for them and I see no problems with any of them. If you install them correctly they work fine.

Sounds to me like you're using some pretty warm loads, that do that from time to time, even on Freedom Arms guns. Just use blue locktite on them and that will fix it.

Actually...the warmest loads I've fired were 240 gr WWB...and 180 gr UMC....nothin' real hot there...Blue will do it? No need for Red?

NEVER EVER use RED. Use only blue. You might want to take them out some day.
