Would like your opinions on Coyoteguns barrels compared to Thompson Center?

Don't own a coyote myself, but from everything I have heard from the guys on the SP forum I would always choose a coyote over  a factory-FWIW.

Full circle for me. When I first got into 'tenders (1979) I thought their barrels were excellent and every one I owned was flawless. Then somewhere along the way...early ninties i was getting new ones with different issues and not the accuracy I expected. I started buying full up custom jobs from all the big players, got rid of all my factory barrels.
Last year I had the opportunity to buy a factory barrel in .204 that is amazingly accurate. Because of that I tried another in 7-30 Waters that shows great promise. I really think TC has gotten back to what I had expected all along.

I have had both T/C Factory Barrels and Barrels from some of the Custom Makers (Bullberry, Virgin Valley Custom Guns, SSK Industries and On Target Technology). I guess it all depends on what you require from the individual barrel.

To me if this barrel is to be chambered for a Deer Hunting Cartridge / Caliber i have found that the T/C Factory Barrels provide what I require of them. Now this is not to say a Barrel from one of the Custom Makers will or will not be more accurate.

On the other hand if the Barrel is to be used for Varmint Hunting or Target Competition then it becomes a little different. The accuracy requirements I place on a particular cartridge / barrel / gun to be used for Varmints is more stringient than one to be used on Whitetail Deer. While I have had T/C Factory Barrels that fullfilled my requirements, I also had to do considerable load testing / developement in some of those barrels to get the accuracy required. The Barrels I have had from some of the Custom Barrel Makers seemed to be much easier to find that just right load for and or shot more loads equally well than T/C Factory Barrels in my experience.

The bottom line is it all depends on what you require from your Barrel. If this is to be a Deer Hunting Barrel and your requirement is for 1" 5 shot groups at 100 yards from the bench, then I am sure yuo'll be able to achieve your goals with a T/C Factory Barrel. On the other hand if your requirement is 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100 yards from the Bench I think you'd have a better chance of reaching your goals with a Custom Job.

SD - I pretty much felt the same way until my latest factory .204.

I have a MGM 23" SS full bull .204 and a TC factory 23" CM .204 Ruger.

One is about double the cost of the other.

Much as I want the most expensive one to shoot the best...its so close that I would have just bought 2 factory jobs if I had to do it over.

Both are legitimate 400 yd. pd rifles with a decent operator.

Contrary to what some people say I have a .222 Rem. and a .22-250 Fox Ridge barrels that will shoot 1/2 in groups at 100 yards. I am sure alot of the custom shop barrels are very good, I haven't had a problem with Fox Ridge barrels myself. Just my personal opinion.

Good Shootin ;D

I have a variety of barrels both custom and factory, for someone on a budget factory barrels are fine just some waht finicky on the load fed them. I for one have some great factory shooters. Have several custom barrels and they shoot fantastic. When buying a custom barrel you have the advantage of specifying exactly what you want, you can send your cases to them and they will custom make the barrel. But all in all factory barrels are quite accurate for the money. By the way I also have coyote barrels that are great shooters and at a price in line with your factory stuff, very good service from Paul. Good Luck Lou
