Are we talking empty chamber or with ammo. Check the length of your scope mount screws on some rifles a slightly overlong screw can cause this

thanks Krochus,

tried with shell in chamber and empty chamber, still wont' close!!!! ???

Also checked scope screws they are not coming through into chamber ???

(just a shot in the dark)-----Is there such a thing as the bolt being "out of time"??? If so how do I time it??

A bad scope base or misaligned scope mounting holes could cause distortion and cause your problem. Remove the scope mount base and see what happens.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

The screw holding the stock onto the action can also be too long and stop the bolt from closing.  Put your finger into the chamber where the bolt would lock up and feel for a screw sticking up from the bottom.

Well with your guy's help I figured it out!!!!!!!

I had somehow mixed up the screws that hold the front and back ring bases on and after taking the scope off ,  found out that they are two different lengths!!!!   i.e. the front screws are shorter than the back screws and I had put the long screws in the front mount which would not let the bolt go closed!!!!!!!  STUPID ME!!!!........

Any way thank you guys so much for your help and ideas, and thank you graybeard for a super great forum!!!!!!!!!!
