Andy I used my 7x57mm and 160 grain bullet handloads to kill an elk at 325 yards with a single, broadside shot. I also used it on whitetail deer, mule deer, antelope, wild pigs, javalina, coyote and wild turkey. It has a mild recoil and is an excellent caliber for a wide variety of game. It is, however, a handloader's proposition because the ammunition manufacturers, with the exception of Hornady and a couple of others, download the caliber. Reloaders can safely reach 3,000 feet per second velocity with 140 grain projectiles, yet, ammo makers keep it down to 2,660 fps, which is still plenty good to take deer. A professional African hunter in the early1900s knocked off several hundred elephants with the cartridge with perfect brain shots. It just gets the job done. Hang on to that treasure of yours.
