Weight of .204 w/ bbl and wood stock
« on: February 21, 2007, 10:00:23 AM »
What is the lightest .204 with a bull barrel and wooden stock?
I noticed that that CZ Varmint was 7.2 lbs. Does anybody know of any lighter ones?

I don't think you can get anything lighter than the CZ in a bolt action gun.  The Kevlar stocked gun is heavier than the wooden one, because the wood stock is a sporter stock with a heavy barrel channel, while the Kevlar is a varmint type stock made by HS Precision.  I've shot the .223 version with the wood stock, and it carries and handles pretty well.  If you don't mind a single shot, the T/C G2 Carbine with 23" heavy barrel and wood stock weighs about 6lbs.  You might look at the Kimber rifles if you don't mind spending some $$$ on a rifle, they are super nice, and the varmint models weigh about 7.5 pounds, but they are SWEET.

The Kimber 84M Varmint is 7lbs 5oz.  The 84M Pro Varmint is 7lbs 4oz.  Both are chambered in .204 Ruger.  MSRP is $1,094 (Varmint) and $1,175 (Pro Varmint).

I think I am just going to go with a regular barrel. I dont think I need the bull barrel for varmint hunting. I dont think I will feel like lugging it around everywhere. Thanks guys!

If your wanting a lite gun forget the varment barrel. I have a CZ 527 with a pincel barrel and have no trouble through a 1/2 in. hole all day long with it and 32 gr. Serria bullets. I figured I`d give up alittle accuracy for the weight, but ended up with the best of both. It does not like 40 gr. bullets though and I`ve heard acoulpe of other guy say theirs didn`t eather.
