Measuring Seating Depth
« on: February 21, 2007, 06:45:05 AM »
I have a small problem trying to find the seating depth for my 45-70 Handi. I use a Stony Point device on a bolt-action rifle, and it works great; the problem with the NEF is that when I open the action the ejector pops out and I can't set the shell in all the way. If I do it without the Stony Point tool and just seat the bullet loosely, the ejector pops it out so fast the bullet comes out and that won't work either.

Is there a simple way to pin down the ejector, or is there an obvious solution to this that I'm missing? The reason I'm doing this is to see where I can seat larger bullets before reaming the throat.

Thanks!

See the temporary ejector to extractor conversion in the FAQs, if that doesn't work, just remove the ejector, the rear roll pin is all the needs to be removed to get the ejector claw out, while you're in there, might as well "tune" the ejector!!
