Carry Strap
« on: February 20, 2007, 02:33:22 PM »
I have been looking for a simple 1" carry strap for my Handi Rifles, Glenfield Model 30, and my Marlin 1895GS.  I ran across this one.

& also the Montana Sling.

It doesn't even need to be adjustable really.  Just a plain 1" leather strap with perhaps a line border on each edge and a couple of brass "Chicago Screws" on each end where it secures to the swivels.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I like light, compact slings so I can put em in my kill bag(fanny pack), put em on the rifle when I need em, I never hunt with a sling on a rifle, it just gets in the way going thru brush and stuff. The Butler Creek Mountain sling is nice for that. I use a Claw sling on my turkey shotgun, it's wide and very comfortable for all day carry. Both cling to my shoulder, never slip off like other slings. ;)

I have several similar nylon slings and they work great, but I'm trying to eliminate synthetic materials from my hunting gear whenever possible.

Leather and wet weather aren't a great combination, so the syn do have a substantial advantage in that respect. ;)

If I wanted a simple leather sling I would make it.
Find a place that fixes saddles and other tack.
They should have scrap leather for sale and the screws or rivets you want.
