Yugo M48 sporter, what to do
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:17:47 AM »
Got a Yugo M48 8x57 that I have turned into a sporter, adding a Timney trigger, boyd stock, drilled & tapped receiver, bolt handle turned down, original step barrel.  It currently shoots pretty good, but to my question.......  Considering selling it to clean out safe or keeping it to put a new barrel/caliber on it?
I've currently got a 35 Whelen, 30-06, 7mm-08, 25-06, plus a few more....

Opinions?

You got nice coverage of most hunting conditions sans the Yugo. Maybe consider going retro and putting the mil stock back on and using it as a plinker/recreational shooter. Your inventory almost mirrors mine and I too was on the verge of sporterizing my Yugo 'til I thought about it. I left mine in Mil-surp condition and held on to it since it is so much fun to shoot at the local club's battle rifle competitions even with the mil sights and has a bit of historical aura I enjoy. Plus if I wanted an 8mm, for about the same $$$ for me to sporterize, I found I could get a close-out Rem 700 Classic ready to go.

I bought the Rem 700 Classic (8x57) when it first came out...It is a great shooter. You won't be sorry.

Yeah, I have been thinking it would be nice to have a 700 classic.  My 35 whelen is one and its nice.  But I think I need to get rid of my Yugo, then I'll consider the Rem.  Guess I'm off to the classified section......  Anybody want a good sporter?
