+P Amunition in a Charter Arms 38

I have a stainless Charter Arms 38 that was given to me by my brother-in-law. Is it safe to use +P ammunition in this gun?

Shoot a few for the feel, then practice with lower power rounds.  A steady diet of Plus P will soon loosen up the Charter quite a bit.
